Encrypted Connection for XML Interop in JDE E1

We are utilizing the XML Interop to connect with a custom JAVA application to JDE. We submit BSFNs and UBEs over this connection. The XML Interop generally connects on port 6016 to JDE, and then resolves to another port after the connection is established. My question is, is this data transfer encrypted? If not, is there any way to encrypt it - maybe a different port or change of settings?
