Rollback upgrade of GI 18c for stand-alone server - short version!

I asked this question a week ago, (here) but since it got zero response, I'm guessing I provided too much info, creating a disincentive to follow it.  Let me try again, much reduced.

I am preparing to upgrade my two GI (oracle restart, ASM) installations from 12.1 to 18c.  On my trial machine, everything went just fine, but I'd really like to know that I can roll back from a failed upgrade.  I'm thinking primarily of a situation where the install/upgrade (all one operation under the OUI) itself goes south for some reason.  Has anyone ever done this before, or have any informed ideas.
