Allowing for 'Submitted'' absence requests to be edited by the Employee and Manager, before they are

I am interested in learning as to whether there are any organizations out there, that are currently allowing a Submitted Absence Request to be edited by the Employee and/or Manager, before it is approved? My organization's current process is that the request has to be canceled  and then re-submitted.  We are interested in knowing if other organizations are allowing this type of functionality and how it is handled if so.
