What is the proper way to upgrade a database with a physical standby in place

We are preparing for upgrading a series of Oracle 12.1 databases to Oracle 19c.

The upgrade will be done one database at a time with testing and development activities in between (so: no "big upgrade bang")

All the databases are sharing the same database-hotel and are configured with MAA (RAC+Dataguard) and ASM for storage (full Grid Infrastructure).

We are not planning to use rolling upgrades (simply not necessary).

The clusters (the Grid Infrastructure) has already been upgraded to 19c.

In the "Oracle Dataguard, Concepts and Administration, 19c" several upgrade paths are described in Appendix B - and the option of interest "B.3 Upgrading Oracle Database with physical standby database in place" is described in following steps:
