oracle 12.1.3 we'd like to use gift codes/certificates on our Commerce Cloud websites. We integrate

we'd like to use gift codes/certificates on our Commerce Cloud websites.  We integrate to oracle 12.1.3.   Does anyone have any experience integrating gift codes into Oracle 12.1.3 from an outside system?  It seems we'd treat these as just another payment method.  But, we've not been able to figure this out.  Conceptually, it seems simple.  Any ideas?

We've looked at commitments and we've looked at using a negative value item.

But, neither of those solutions seems elegant and straight forward.

Again, it seems like we should be able to simply send in multiple payment types (one for gift code and one for visa) on an order and boom, it works.
