IO performance

We have purchased a new database server and found to our disappointment that the IO performance is worse on the SAN connected via iSCSI than it was before on internal spinning rust. Are you aware of any papers/advice for tuning the storage for the database workload? I found the performance guide, but it seems vague and out of date.
