What does '*' mean at the beginning of a line in the oratab file?

In our oracle e-bus server we have the following entries in the oratab file:

*:/u01/appl/CRAPRD/9.2.0:N

*:/u01/appl/CRAPRD/8.0.6:N

*:/u01/appl/CRAPRD/iAS:N

CRAPRD:/u01/appl/CRAPRD/11.1.0:Y

What do the entries that begin with '*' mean?

Are they required for E-bus 11.5.10.2?

Can I delete them?

Howdy, Stranger!
