StandBy Backup Parameters

Hi,

We wish to backup from the Physical StandBy and do NOT want to use a catalog.   Oracle/rman does not allow update of "configure retention policy" on StandBy side, and changing on primary side does not sync to standby.  As I indicated we do not want to use a catalog.  How can we change the config retention policy on the StandBy without making it the Primary?
