Question regarding restore RAC db to non-RAC

Hi:

We are currently having RAC db that is backed up through RMAN. I believe there is a way to restore the backup to a single instance that is not setup as RAC. Could someone point me to the documentation for this? Also, if the RMAN backup is for the RAC db that is with ASM setup, can that backup be restore to another server that is having file system and not ASM setup?

Also, is the backup platform independent? Meaning, if the backup is done in the RAC system with solaris sparc OS. can this same backup be restore to db in windows OS?
