Deinstall Grid Infrastructure 12.1.0.2

Hello,

What would be the best approach to deinstall or deconfigure grid infrastructure without deinstalling or tampering with the databases connected to it?

GI was used before I started working there but at some point it was stopped.

Now it comes time to upgrade the single instance 5 databases on this server but upgrade process throws an error related to grid even though the upgrade was successful.

Just want to have a tidy environment and clean-up mess left by predecessors.
