Supplier Lot dates

When receiving PO items form a Suppliers we are not able to enter Manufacturing and Expiration  dates. If entering a manufacturing date, we get an error stating that the manufacturing date is less then the on hand date. When entering the expiration date instead, the manufacturing date is automatically set to the receiving date. . How can I make sure and enter the correct dates during receiving?
