Questions about catalog maintenance with multiple SBT_TAPE media locations

Hello, DBAs

We have RAC and Restart instances installed on Oracle Linux 7.x, with versions EE 11.2.x through 19c. We use EMC's Data Domain as our third-party MML. When it was deployed, multiple media locations were provisioned for Oracle backups. Data Domain calls these "storage units", which they define as pre-made disk volumes on the DD servers. Each Oracle host is assigned to backup to a specific storage unit, and RMAN commands send the storage unit when allocating SBT_TAPE channels for backup and maintenance. A typical "allocate channel" command for maintenance looks like this:
