SBC as THE Firewall

Just putting this out there for comments.
Do any of you use the SBC as the ONLY firewall between your phone system and your telco.
In our situation we have Palo firewalls (yes walls - multiple) and router ACLs between the SBC and the telco.
Is this over kill ?
