Do you know the specific setup steps for sending an email to the customer when a shipment is confirm

We require to send an email to the customer when a ship is confirmed.
We found Note 414933.1 , where some setup steps are indicated, but it´s not clear to us, what must be done to send the email to the customer.
We need the specific setup steps.
We would also like to know which of the workflows should be enabled:
- Delivery Workflow
- Trip Workflow
- Ship to Deliver Process Workflow
