Order split and Equipment compartment

Hello All, i have a question regarding order release not  splittable  and equipment with compartment. It seems that OTM doesn't allow to share the order release ship unit on two compartments form the same equipment if the order release is flag as splittable to No. So does the split logic apply on the compartment or only on the equipment ? We are currently using 6.4.1 with 3d planning.
