Cancel Purchase Order - PO_DOCUMENT_CONTROL_PUB.CONTROL_DOCUMENT Very Slow

Hello,

While executing PO_DOCUMENT_CONTROL_PUB.CONTROL_DOCUMENT to cancel purchase orders, do we need to explicitly call workflow background process? Have noticed that the execution is extremely slow and wonder is this something to do with the  workflow background process which is scheduled as a concurrent program to execute every minutes.

Appreciate any insight.
