Taskgroup Maintenance - Delete Task Profiles

My company uses Task Groups extensively. According to People books existing Task Profiles in the task group cannot be deleted, they can only be inactivated. Our users feel this is a major inconvenience as the inactive task profiles are piling up over the years. There should be an option to at least delete the Task Profiles that are Inactive. Any one else felt this was an issue? How are you handling it? Please let me know. Thank You all for your input.
