P4310 requisition exception tracking

We are running JDE 9.2. Users are requesting a way to enter an exception code for reporting purposes in P4310 whenever a line revised.  These would be reason codes such as requisition does not match quote (we do not use the quote applications within JDE).  I am attempting to use F4311.PDS4 as it is currently not in use. I have added some test reason codes to UDC 41|S4.  There is no drop down or visual assist available in the P4310 grid and if I enter free form and save the entry is gone when I open the work order again.
