how does the disk array allocate the lun to asm diskgroup

if redundancy of  the diskgroup is external and the disk array has set mirror and stripe,how  does the disk array allocate the lun to asm?  allocate a big lun to the diskgroup or allocate some little luns to the diskgroup? which one is the best
