while doing the sales update getting below error in work center.

please suggest

Error: Lot/Serial Number Must be Entered
  Cause. . . . . The item number is defined to use advanced lot/serial
                 processing, and a lot/serial number must be entered.
  Resolution . . Enter a lot/serial number.
