Does Serial number 2 (SRL2) in F4220 (basic serial numbers) have any purpose? we would like to use

We are using Basic serial numbers to capture the serial number on units shipped out. We don't want to go to advanced serial numbers at this time. Some units sold as 1 item consist of a pair of sub-assemblies, that actually are setup as Phantoms currently., and wrapped together.

We would like to capture 2 serial numbers when we sell this item. We see there is a serial number 2 field in this table currently. It would be convenient to use that so we can capture both serial numbers. Is there any functionality in E1 to do so? is the field actually used anywhere in E1?
