ssh fails with "Unspecified GSS failure"

where can I look into when I have the following ssh situation -

systems are running Solaris 11.4.21, source node is sparc, target node is x86 11.4.17 (but I think that doesn't matter).

I saved the root ssh pubkey from source node on the target node in /root/.ssh/authorized_keys to get password-less access.
