Database SGA size (mainly buffer cache) with exadata vs without exadata

Hi

https://docs.oracle.com/en/engineered-systems/exadata-database-machine/dbmso/hardware-components-exadata-db-machine.html…

I was reading about Exadata hardware components and for example database server X8-2, on base, there is only 384GB of RAM, yes, I see it is expandable, but still, only 384G.

  • 384 GB RAM, expandable to 768 GB (12 x 64 GB) or 1.5 TB (24 x 64GB) with memory expansion kit

For storage server, there is only 192G, and not expandable also.

  • 192 GB RAM (12 x 16 GB DIMMs) – full 6 channels
  • .. also there is this flash cache (starting from 25.6T)

I mean, I have single database in RAC (without Exadata) where SGA is already set to almost 500G at the moment (hugepages used of course). With Exadata base configuration I am able to run basically just this one database with such a big SGA.

Howdy, Stranger!
