Auto-Cancel Backorder non-soft reserve items

Is it possible to have the system auto cancel non-soft reserve backorder lines? We do not want the system to reserve any qty for our items but would like for it to auto cancel backorder lines when there is zero quantity on hand. Currently these order lines remain in an unfulfilled status. We do have our fulfillment options to always cancel backorders, par items also have cancel backorder flag checked.
