Is there a way after an order is created to make a call to Vertex for changing tax information?

Using E1 9.2 and Vertex O series and need to know if there is a way to make a call to Vertex after the order has been created without having to edit the order? In this scenario the customer was taxable at the time of order entry and the tax exempt certificate was received before ship confirm.
