Upgrade from non-ASM 12c to ASM 19c Linux RH

Hello experts, I want to do a DBUA from 12c to 19c on Linux RedHat platform.

Source database 12c is on file systems, CDB

Target database 19c, has ASM 19c.

The idea is to move the file systems from the source database to path 12c of the destination database, startup there and then perform the DBUA at 19c.

But I have doubts about how to go from non-ASM to ASM.

I found this document:

Steps To Migrate-Move a Database From Non-ASM to ASM And Vice-Versa (Doc ID 252219.1)

should I perform these steps?

or the DBUA will do it during the upgrade?
