Can you use USER_FIELD1-USER_FIELD_5 for tracking only

We have been asked to create some special tracking entries that would allow us to query against PeopleSoft for specific non-PCG projects or activities, but that would not cause issues with our financials accounting and reporting. I know we can set up USER_FIELD_1-USER_FIELD-5 in reported time, but how does that translate over to Financials? Are those fields retained when brought over from HCM to FIN? Has anyone used these fields specifically for tracking only purposes? PS 9.2 at this time. Any insight is appreciated.
