Life Insurance waiting periods are changing how can we configure to move employees?

Our life insurance waiting periods are changing from 3-6 months on January 1. How can we configure PeopleSoft HCM to support transitioning employees currently in the 3 month waiting period to 6 months? I have tried adjusting waiting periods and use existing without success.

Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated. Thank you for your time.
