Using % Complete to update Actual & Remaining Units/Cost

I am using P6 Professional v. 17.12.6 and am wondering if it's possible to update an activity by updating its % Complete (by either using Physical or Units for the % Complete Type -- NOT Duration), and have P6 update the actual and remaining units and associated cost based on updating the activity by actualizing its start, entering a % complete, and advancing the data date.
My colleagues and I have been trying to test settings that might allow us to update an activity’s assigned resources and corresponding units and costs by just actualizing the task and updating its % Complete. Currently, we have the following settings applied, but we are unable to get consistent results (in particular, if an activity must be statused over more than one reporting period. We have seen costs “drop” or disappear from the schedule, resulting in $0 actuals and $0 remaining cost, which is not the intention.
