TNS connect string using host name with http in it

In supporting Oracle customers, I've noticed lately that a number using TNS connect strings will have host names where the server name is prefixed with http (Example: DESCRIPTION=...(HOST=http://someservername.xxxx.cl)... ). I'm not familiar with this syntax and haven't been able to find anything describing it.

Anybody know what's going on with this host name using http syntax?
