How to not have Flex mode enabled

I thought ASM Flex mode was disabled by default. It doesn't appear to be so for us. All our 12c, 18c, 19c RAC installations have it enabled according to

$ asmcmd showclustermode

ASM cluster : Flex mode enabled - Direct Storage Access

(or equivalently by `kfod op=getclstype')

On the Internet or MOS, there're articles on how to convert from non-Flex to Flex. How do we convert it the other way? More importantly, what step in running gridSetup.sh made Flex enabled if there is such a configuration we have always missed? Thank you!
