Why is patching Database System on OCI such a painful proces

Hi,

I've been patching databases with Opatch for about 18 years. Since last year working on OCI for a customer. Now we have a database system, with Oracle 19.7 on it. The patches have to be applied.

The Pre-check sometimes fails, for no obvious reason. Re-run it and it succeeds, or not, but then re-run it again.

Anyway. Then Apply the patch. This may hang sometimes, without logging, for an hour or so. Maybe it fails, maybe not. What is going on here? Is there some other location to check? I look at:

/u01/app/oracle/product/19.0.0/dbhome_1/cfgtoollogs/opatch

But it is not obvious what there is going on. What is your experience in this matter??
