What tools can we use to protect long running GUI upgrade sessions with VPN network abort

We were using vncserver on Linux but, getting security scan findings on them. We used to use OpenText Exceed onDemand previously, but we need to wait for procurement process (could be a long wait). Any suggestions for TOOLS/workarounds that our GUI long running upgrade/patching processes will be protected from network drops while working remote over VPN connections?
