Approving Documents

It appears that the document approval functionality in the system was created for and in ePerformance. Does anyone have any experience where they have used this functionality for other HCM, but non-ePerformance functions (i.e., Salary Request/Approval Memos, etc)? Or can someone point me to any Oracle reference where this can be configured (not here: https://docs.oracle.com/cd/F38031_01/hcm92pbr37/eng/hcm/hepf/task_ApprovingDocuments-e36e64.html?pli=ul_d62e163_hepf)

Is this something we need to customize?
