Can we update ENG_ITEM_FLAG to 'N' when item was created with ENG_ITEM_FLAG='Y' ?

Hello All,

We are planning to create a new Master Org and as part of it we created items in Engineering with ENG_ITEM_FLAG='Y'. Due to time constraints we cannot start the new Master Org now and now we want to update ENG_ITEM_FLAG to 'N' and want to assign these items to a different org too. When I try to update using API, I receive "The columns PRIMARY_UNIT_OF_MEASURE and ENGINEERING_ITEM_FLAG are not updatable."

So what are our options to update ENG_ITEM_FLAG to 'N' for these items ?
