Is it possible to perform an RMAN restore of a 12.1.0.1.0 Oracle version database to a 19C database?

Hello Folks,

I performed an Oracle 19.3 install and a skeleton database on a brand new RHEL 7 version machine. Now, I would like to restore my skeleton database from a cold RMAN backup of 12.1.0.1.0 database from a different host, from my research on this subject I am getting conflicting information of Yes (it can be done), and No (not possible). Also, read somewhere to it said to upgrade to 12.2 before restoring to 19.3.


Can someone please help with the correct approach on this subject. I do understand with noopn option and starting upgrade after the restore. I am ready to perform a test run, however, it will be great to get a feed back from someone in our community.
