Utilizing the Alternate Input Item section in Formula Specifications

We are using ‘Oracle Agile PLM for Process’ | Version 6.2.2.

We would like to better understand how the "Alternate Input Items" feature on the Process tab of Formula Specifications work.

1.      Does global succession catch this section?

2.      How does using alternates impact the output spec/composition?

3.      Are they visible in the roll-up and when creating a LIO?

4.      If we are inputting two possible alternates, how do we utilize the Factor --- G/L fields?
