Gather Schema Statistics concurrent request high CPU?

Hi

We are on EBS 12.2.8 running on Oracle Database 12c Enterprise Edition Release 12.1.0.2.0 - 64bit Production.

Apps tier and db tier are on separate aws cloud instances of RHEL7.

We have been getting CPU 90% alerts for the db tier from AWS when we are running Gather Schema Statistics. At other times we get a daily spike of 50% but otherwise CPU is less than 10%. Is the high CPU utilisation on the db tier when Gather Schema Statistics is running something to be concerned about?
