Which user applies grid patching in Exadata? Root or grid?

I believe this should be a very quick question to answer.

We have an Exadata X7-2 eighth rack running Oracle Linux 6 in a VM configuration with RAC in a production VM cluster. Dev and Test VMs are non-RAC. Our grid version is 18.0.0.0 supporting 12.1.0.2 and 18.5.0.0 databases.

We are attempting to patch the grid infrastructure and databases homes to resolve issue DB46 identified by the AHF 20.4 Exachk, which for us would be the application of patch 28072383.

The patch readme states only to apply the patch to the Grid infrastructure as the "grid owner", but we are not certain if this is the root user or the grid user. How can we confirm this?
