Can someone explain the purpose of the Sponsor field for OLM Courses and Classes please?

We have a maturing OLM implementation as part of an EBS implementation at 12.2.9. We are currently not operating cross-charging for training administered through OLM.

The business team is after information on the purpose of having "Sponsor" information in the setup for Courses and Classes, as for us they don't relate to any restriction on learner access. We restrict learner access via Learner Groups and Eligibility Profiles using Organization and sometimes Job; or currently Person Type.

OBIEE is emerging as our preferred reporting/BI solution but currently we don't utilise the Sponsor in reporting.

So there is a desire to understand what purpose the Sponsor field serves - can you help at all please?
