Hyperion Budget Book returns http 500 11.1.2.4.000 when adding pdf

How can I troubleshoot the following problem ? Should the book be created from scratch ? I have tried adding Xmx to the java with no change in the result. User has tried to isolate the offending pdf with mixed results. Is this a known issue ? Thanks. -Steve

Hyperion Planning 11.1.2.4.006 Financial Reporting 11.1.2.4.705 on linux (SLES11SP4). User was able to generate a book earlier this week. After making changes (adding/deleting supporting pdf documents), the user gets an http 500 error when opening the book. The FRLogging.log file shows a document looks corrupted:
