Competencies: Employee-Entered Codes for external Learning

Hello,
In general for the Competency and Performance HCM modules in Self-Service, but more specifically when an employee, when entering their competencies using the self-service facility, if the employee enters a new code for external training subject to an administrator's approval, I have read in the user guide that the administrator would be notified of such new entry through the Employee Message Center. Is this the only notification channel or could we configure so that the administrator receives an email instead?
