vncserver display black screen but works for some users and not others

I have a puzzle on a Solaris 11.4 server when trying to use vnc viewer to connect.

I can start vncserver fine on a user which hasn't connected before and use gnome-session, but when I try on one that used to work, it is just giving me a black screen.

The users have the same xstartup config file, and same LANG settings.

I have had this before and used the refresh option in vnc viewer and it has woken the screen up, but it is not working on this particular user.

I close all vncserver sessions off so it should be starting a new connection.
