As Of Process for Inventory Monitoring

We are trying to get to the bottom of some inventory problems we are experiencing, so I have been running Stock Status (R41530) every day for a small group of items. I'm wondering if the As Of process would help in the same way (for all items) if we ran the R41542 on a nightly basis (I know there is also initial set up that has to be done in order to get As Of up and running).

I've read the document 625402.1 on As Of processing and it doesn't really discuss whether it's possible or appropriate to use it in this manner.
