Oracle Linux KVM and Virtual Firewalls/Networking

in Linux Operating System (MOSC) Question

In an Oracle Linux KVM implementation where you have two (2) VMs sitting on the same physical host with the network configured in the same Layer 2 domain.

When there is traffic between them, does the traffic leave the host to the connected switch port and come back or does the traffic remains inside the hypervisor?
