Controlling what lots get hard committed at shipping release time

I am wondering if there is a place where you can apply certain rules to what lots get committed and in what order when committing lots during shipping release print time? I am in the process of looking at committing lots during the Shipping release print time. We use a custom that mimics the R42522. I can't seem to find how to control how the system looks and commits lots. I'm assuming oldest lot first and so on?
