Adding a New Visa Type on the Visa/Permits page

In Peoplesoft v. 9.2, I need to add a Visa Type, which is at least 4 characters long. (The USCIS actually defines it as 5 characters, including a "-".) The Visa/Permit Type field appears to only accommodate up to 3 characters. Any suggestions? Are there plans to increase the field size to accommodate more characters?
