Looking for work-around for using the asset hierarchy page (EAM_GN_ASSET_HIER_DETAIL).

We are migrating from 11i to R12. In 11i our requestor user responsibility includes the asset tab. Users go to the Hierarchy page to search for assets based on their parent/child structure. In R12 when the user launches Hierarchy page (EAM_GN_ASSET_HIER_DETAIL) from the inquiry page (EAM_AD_ADVSEARCH_PAGE) they are changed to 'Super User' responsibility. We have already processed an SR that confirmed this is standard functionality. However, we cannot have our lowest level user to have the responsibility of the highest level responsibility.  Is there any available work-around that can turn-off this functionality?  We want the user to just stay in the responsibility they had when they signed
