Adding serial number of item at ship confirm

Hello All

We have a scenario wherein the customer does not want to track serial number of products while in inventory. This is because they have a large portfolio of products which if we start tracking the serial number in the system it would lead to lot of data maintenance issues. Also other warehouse activities like cycle count they would have to do it serial number wise. Instead the customer just wants to add the serial number at the time of ship confirm. However my understanding is that Std JDE does not allow adding serial number at ship confirm if the item
