What is the $EXTEND directory that sometime appears in the 'root' of NFS shares

in Disk Storage ZFS Storage Appliance (MOSC) 2 commentsAnswered ✓

I've noticed that some NFS shares from a ZF appliance have a root:bin directory named '.$EXTEND' that is rwxr-w--- What is this and is it safe to remove it?
